Thai funk-inspired, psych rock trio Khruangbin brought their 2018 winter tour across the Canadian border Thursday night, performing at Toronto’s famed concert venue The Danforth Music Hall. Below, you can check out a gallery of photographs from this stellar evening of music, courtesy of Sugar Foot Media’s Alexandra Viola.
Among material from their most recent album, January 2018’s Con Todo El Mundo, a no-brainer highlight of this Toronto stop was a massive medley of covers that included multiple Dr. Dre songs, as well as songs from Ice Cube, Kool and The Game, Chris Isaak, and more. A three-song encore included their groove-laden cover of “Christmas Time Is Here,” which they released as a single earlier this month.
The (mostly) instrumental trio only came together as a band in 2010, but in the short time since then have made some very big accolades, like tours stretching across multiple continents and popular sets at premier music festivals like Pitchfork, LOCKN’ and others. Last night, the band headed down from Canada to Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, and tonight will play Columbus Ohio’s Newport Music Hall. Later this week they head to Boston, Brooklyn NY, and beyond.
