The Forest was absolutely Electric on Saturday night! Once again, The String Cheese Incident elevated their game with a first set of all original cheese anthems and a second filled with epic salutes to recently deceased rock icons.
After declaring that the fans here “have made this the best festival in the world,” Michael Kang broke out everyone’s favorite fiddle for an explosive “Bollymunster” to start the set. The instrumental masterpiece “Dudley’s Kitchen” kept the show rolling right along into a lively “Sweet Spot”, finally culminating into a super funky “Beautiful” to bring the first half to intermission.
Bill Nershi felt the need to let it all out before the second set, and enlisted the help of the Forest with a primal “Group Hoot” to get things going before jumping into the brand new tune “Believe,” written by Michael Kang. It turned into a crazy dance party after that, with “Stop Drop and Roll” leading the way into a positively insane sequence of tributes and stage production that was out of this world. Prince’s “Kiss” was played into “Lets Dance” by David Bowie back into another Prince hit “Let’s Go Crazy” seamlessly transitioned into Bowie’s jewel “Space Oddity,” before it all came together with “Search”. Meanwhile the stage and crowd had exploded into an interactive spectacle complete with trapeze artists hanging from hot air balloons, inflatable unicorns flying through the air, massive gold beach balls crashing their way through the crowd, and dazzling pyrotechnics to illuminate the sky.
Cheese kept the fire burning hot for the rest of the set with a mesmerizing “Valley of the Jig”, that floated into the Bob Marley classic “Kinky Reggae”. The band was visibly loving every moment of “Jellyfish” before erupting into “Just One Story” to put a cap on this astronomic evening.
