One month from today, on October 23, Charlottesville, Virginia folk funk outfit Kendall Street Company will release their brand new studio album, entitled The Stories We Write For Ourselves. Just this past weekend, the band released a new single from the album, “Go On,” which you can stream here below at the bottom of the article.
“Go On” starts with a gradual, folk rock build in the first half before giving way to a grittier, funk rock climax, demonstrating a bit of the great versatility that the music of Kendall Street Company commands. In the song’s louder and softer ends, piano, bass, acoustic guitar, saxophone, and drums all mix in a colorful and soulful style that KSC fans have come to love.
In a press statement released along with the song earlier this week, the band gave their own thoughts on both “Go On” and the new album:
“…on the upcoming fifth studio album, The Stories We Write For Ourselves, the band offers a softer, dreamier sound, demonstrating their more serious approach to songwriting. “Go On” – written by the band’s vocalist Louis Smith, opens as an acoustic number as Smith begins to recall the details of a night out, but quickly builds and turns into a funky jam. “Go On”, now available on all major streaming services, is a just taste of what The Stories We Write For Ourselves has to offer.”
Be on the lookout on October 23 for Kendall Street Company’s new album to drop. In the meantime, stream the new single “Go On” below. For more information, head to the band’s website here.
