Earlier today, FloydFest Music and Arts Festival announced the theme for next year’s weekend event, Odyssey, scheduled to take place from July 21 to July 25, 2021. The festival also revealed today its first headlining act: indie folk superstars The Avett Brothers. This comes as exciting news to longtime patrons of the Virginia based music event, who know that this will mark The Avetts’ third FloydFest appearance, their first being all the way back at FloydFest 5, Roots Alive, in 2006. You can check out a brief video clip of the band’s set from that year at the bottom of this article, courtesy of the YouTube page of Brad Wright.
As with all music related events this year, FloydFest was forced to postpone their 2020 event, VisionQuest, which was scheduled for July 22 through 26 and which would have had The String Cheese Incident headlining two nights, alongside Umphreys McGee, Grace Potter, Adrian Belew of Talking Heads, and more. In light of that unfortunate outcome, many fans gave a show of good faith to the festival, in choosing to roll over their ticket purchases for this year’s event into tickets for the 2021 weekend.
Below is a screenshot of a response on FaceBook from Sam Calhoun, head of Across The Way Productions which puts on FloydFest each year. Below that, check out the short clip from The Avett Brothers’ first performance at FloydFest. For more information and to purchase tickets for the 2021 event, head to the festival’s website here.
