In an exciting fall season full of lengthy tours from bands left and right, coming right into the swirly mix of things are The Higgs, the California-based jamband whom are currently making their way through a big, cross-country tour. With their live show self-dubbed as offering “cerebral jams for the masses,” four-member The Higgs should be high on the must-see list of any hardcore lover of inspirationally improvisational, dizzyingly experimental live music.
Furthur down the line on their tour, The Higgs have some exciting gigs ahead, like a performance at Railroad Earth’s Hangtown Music Festival and a date supporting jamtronica favorites Sunsquabi in Crystal Bay, Nevada. But this weekend, the band makes a quick but buzzworthy trip through the northeast.
Tomorrow night, The Higgs will kick off their northeast run at famous Philadelphia bar Milkboy, and then follow it up with a stop Sunday night at New York City’s Mercury Lounge. For both of these gigs, The Higgs will be joined by dynamic funk outfit Stig. The Higgs will continue through New York next week, playing Photo City Improv in Rochester and then Buffalo Iron Works. Following that will be a show at Boston’s Thunder Road, where they will be joined by Connecticut jamband Eggy, and then The Pressroom in New Hampshire, joined there by rock and roll soul band Tenth Mountain Division.
Earlier this summer, The Higgs performed at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads. Get a taste of the band’s live style by checking out this video from that show, which has them segue a cover of Wilco’s “Handshake Drugs” into their original tune “Dude Wears Socks.”
