Modern day rocker JD McPherson is currently working his way through an east coast tour, and announced Monday that his highly anticipated performance at NYC’s The Bowery Ballroom this Friday on April 20 is sold out. The singer songwriter and guitarist plays tonight at Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA followed by a stop tomorrow night at Gateway City Arts in Holyoke, MA, before Bowery and then ending the week with a set at Old Settler’s Music Festival in Dale, TX.
McPherson had a storied rise to fame just six years ago, after the success of his first album , whereupon Rolling Stone was soon enough was calling him an “Artist to Watch.” With his entry upon the scene, he delivered an unmistakably pure-hearted update of old school rockabilly, a revitalization of the classic sound with a manic new energy and refined songwriting skills.
His latest record, Undivided Heart and Soul, was released last October to high praise from the music world, and further cemented his belonging in today’s esteemed league of americana superstars. The record alone features some pretty noteworthy guests, including Nicole Atkins, Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs. Not surprisingly, McPherson is slated to appear at some pretty revered events, including Newport Folk Festival, Outlaw Music Festival, and Xponential Festival, alongside artists like David Byrne, The War on Drugs, Sturgill Simpson, and more.
Although Friday’s show is sold out, McPherson will be making the rounds again with another lengthy tour through June and July, which kicks off with a huge show at Red Rocks Amphitheater on June 9—where he’ll be performing beside Blackberry Smoke and Big Head Todd and The Monsters.
