Producer, vibraphonist, and singer Kevin Kendrick returns with his band A Big Yes and a small no for a new album release along with a short run of live performances across the next couple of weeks. The new record, titled Mise en Abyme, is set to release on Friday April 20, and reunites Kendrick’s longtime bandmates in drummer Joe Russo, keyboardist Erik Deutsch, guitarist Jonathan Goldberger, and bassist Jonti Siman.
It’s no surprise given the combination of this musical star power that Abyme sounds as wonderful as it does, but of course the bulk of the credit goes to Kendrick’s surreal songwriting talents. The album serves a collection of contemplative, poetic songs that flesh out indie pop with subtle but satisfying bits of jazz, hip hop, soul and more. The band has released videos for a number of songs on the album, including the cool new music video for “Enough is Enough,” which you can stream below.
As for live appearances, fans have a few chances to catch this incredible outfit live. A Big Yes and a small no kick off their run this Tuesday on April 17 at Bridgeport, CT’s The Acoustic Cafe. The next night on Wednesday, April 18, will be Mise en Abyme‘s album release party at NYC’s Berlin, followed by a show at Stanhope House in New Jersey on Friday, April 20. Two weeks after thatare just two more listed dates, at Teaneck, NJ’s Debonair Music Hall on May 3 and then John and Peter’s Place in New Hope, PA on the fourth.
