Greensky Bluegrass are currently blazing their way through their 2018 Winter tour, and tomorrow they will pick things back up for a northeastern stretch of shows. Starting tomorrow night at The Egg in Albany, the progressive jamgrass group will continue to Boston’s House of Blues on Thursday, and then top off the week with two big nights on Friday and Saturday at NYC’s PlayStation Theatre.
Opening up on both nights will be Greensky’s touring mate, acoustic guitar phenom Billy Strings, with his band. Strings, who has been warming up Greensky since their three night NYE run in Chicago, continues to spread his reputation as one of the country’s most dynamic bluegrass guitarists. The young, incredibly inspired musician brings a wild, borderline punk rock energy to his bluegrass approach, and is also backed by a similarly tenacious group of players.
Likewise, when one think’s about the bands that are currently riding and pushing the growing wave of interest in progressive and jamband bluegrass, Greensky continues to remain at the top of the list.
If you have to wonder whether people are hyped for Greensky Bluegrass and Billy Strings’ shows right now, tomorrow in Albany, NY is sold out, and it wouldn’t surprise us if more dates suddenly followed suit.
For big apple fans of either bluegrass or americana rock, this two-night run in NYC should be something not to miss out on. The most recent run to grace the stage of NYC’s PlayStation Theatre were the four huge nights from The Disco Biscuits’ NYE block, and one could expect this weekend from Greensky Bluegrass to approach a similar level of musical energy and ecstasy.
