Off in the woods surrounding Merriweather Post Pavilion has risen a new structure, one that should become a destination venue in Columbia, Maryland for years to come. Dubbed The Chrysalis, this is a work of art as much as it is a state-of-the-art stage and venue.
This symbolic amphitheater will open in just a couple of weeks, with both Greensky Bluegrass and Leftover Salmon billed on Saturday, July 22. Leftover Salmon has been a mainstay in the progressive bluegrass/jam scene for almost three decades now, bearing the torch from an era of artists such as Norman Blake, Seldom Scene and New Grass Revival, into this new generation of bluegrass stars, at the forefront being Greensky Bluegrass.
The progressive bluegrass scene is arguably stronger than it’s been in a long time, and these two bands are a huge reason for that growth, gaining devout fan bases all over the country in the meantime. Located in Columbia, Maryland, this should be an easily accessible show for multiple markets that have a lot of love for GSBG and Salmon.
