Festival season is about to kick into full gear, and for a few hundred well-informed music fanatics, the first musical camp-out of the year is going down at the fifth Hidden in the Hollow Festival next weekend (May 19-20) in Butler, Tennessee.
What began as a wedding celebration with enthusiastic friends has grown into an annual music festival, which promises top tier talent and lots of unique perks and quirks that you wont find anywhere else. “After our wedding, Hitched in the Hollow Festival back in 2012, our friends were begging us to do it again. We decided we would go for it”, explained Valentine Reilly, one of the original founders. “Everything about the event stemmed from the original wedding, and we built around the location of the festival. It is not a huge space, so to bring GREAT music to a small number of people, we came up with the all VIP idea and all the freebies- the beer, the pizza party, the poster or t-shirt, cups, and we always throw a few surprises in there. We really want to make it worth every penny for the folks who come out to join us.”
That’s right, all Hidden in the Hollow tickets come with the full VIP experience, including amenities, fun Hollow traditions, and neat swag, all of which emphasize the intimacy that this reunion of friends has come to be known for. While tickets can’t be directly purchased for Hidden in the Hollow, the invite process is just part of the fun. Attendees need to do nothing more than request an invite on the website (hiddeninthehollowfestival.com).
The impressive amphitheater stage tucked away in the scenic mountains of Butler is just a short 30 minute drive from Boone, and has been graced with the presence of such icons as Melvin Seals, George Porter Jr, and the late great Col Bruce Hampton. This year attendees can expect plenty of beloved returning acts as well as fresh new additions. “We have been so fortunate to have so many wonderful musicians join us year after year. This year I could not be more excited about having Acoustic Synidcate back, The Mantras bringing us 2 nights of epic music, Jeff Sipe’s super awesome super group he has put together JUST for the Hollow, Consider the Source bringing it back once again, Jahman Brahman joining us after years of trying to get them out the festival, and Runaway Gin! Not to mention SO many wonderful local artist, including Melissa Reeves, gracing us with their presences once again. I truly think this could be the best year yet music wise,” Reilly said.
So whether you come our for the amazing music, the unparalleled camaraderie, or just to boogie your blues away, make your way to the Hollow and experience for yourself everything that is right with this region’s music scene! See you there.
