Just in time for a busy few touring months, Vermont jam rockers Twiddle released their new double album PLUMP – Chapters 1 & 2 on Friday.
The first disc of the album, Chapter 1 (originally released in December 2015), features several tracks that have been re-imagined, re-mixed and engineered by Ron St. Germaine (of Bad Brains, 311) including the lead single and crowd favorite “When It Rains It Pours.” The second disc, Chapter 2, is a collection of 15 brand new tracks, collectively written by all members of the band. The result is a refreshing compilation of multi-genre, lyrically-driven
About half of Chapter 2 is made up of instrumental tracks, each with its own eclectic twist deriving from each band member’s musical style. From a sub-minute long piano interlude (“Enter”) to the hard-punching, angsty “Juggarnaut,” to a barnyard-stomping “Fat Country Baby,” Chapter 2 is full of surprises. Nevertheless, the classic good-feeling, reggae bounce Twiddle sound is ever-so present on tracks like “Moments” and “Milk.”
Twiddle has grown their recognition substantially by garnering a following who especially enjoys the band’s extensive improvisation at live shows. This spring and summer will be a great chance to see these new songs played live and fresh, most likely including some jam-friendly twists.
