Umphrey’s McGee will be returning to Asheville this February for the 2nd Annual Blue Ridge Rockway, this time bringing Greensky Bluegrass along as support. The event will take place February 17-18 at ExploreAsheville.com Arena with Greensky Bluegrass opening, with an initmate UM show at The Orange Peel on Sunday, February 19th.
Last year’s inaugural Blue Ridge Rockway was a huge success, and saw openers TAUK and The Motet play some great after-parties around town. UM’s Ryan Stasik and Joel Cummins even sat in with TAUK for a special TAUKing McGee set that had the whole town talking for days.
Umphrey’s and Greensky hail from two very different ends of the jamband world, but they are more alike than meets the eye, and should mesh together very well on Asheville’s biggest stage. Both bands tour relentlessly throughout the year, play high-energy, passionate music layered with mind-blowing improvisation, and they have both shown an affinity for creating “mash-ups” of cover songs. They have also played together in numerous situations, including Summer Camp Music Festival and Jam Cruise. The two bands are set to co-headline Suwannee Hulaween’s Official Pre-Party this Thursday, so hopefully we will see a little preview of the collaborative potential between the two spirited groups.
