Well folks, it was a hot one at The Big What? this year. With temperatures soaring up into the 90s every day of the weekend, it could have easily been a recipe for a miserable time and an excuse for widespread crankiness. However, that was NOT the case for this, the 5th year of Big Something’s cherished annual music festival.
Good vibes, smiles, and positive energy abound, even during the oppressive heat of the day, nothing seemed to be able to stifle the labor of love that Big Something and company had created for their fans. It was hard to find anyone with anything negative to say, which served as a constant a testament to the devotion of fans in attendance, the professional attention to detail put forth by the band and crew, and countless special little touches which allowed for a weekend of smoothly running epic fun.
There were certainly those who avoided the scorching planes and sought shelter in the cooler shade of the wooded camping area during the day, but once the sun and temperature had dropped the party was in full effect. All of the music of the weekend was top notch, and sit-ins were a regularity. Darby did great keeping up the energy as MC, Al Al kept things sweet and nasty as artist at large, Zach Deputy laid down the law at a secret late-night camp stage, and the Big Something boys had lots of memorable guest appearances.
The thing that really stood out in a sea of hazy memorable moments was Friday’s amazing secret Big Something set, which took place at a fully functional hidden stage a short parade procession away, and gave the festival an intimate uniqueness and reflected the thoughtfulness and genuine spirit of a band who truly appreciates their fans.
