The String Cheese Incident brought their special run of Independence Incidents further down south, braving some early showers to throw it down for the crazy congregation that assembled at Chastain Park in the suburbs of Atlanta.
“Close Your Eyes” got the show on the road to a grassy Sunday favorite, “Doin My Time” before busting out “Betray The Dark” for the first time this tour. “Rhythm of the Road” was next up, with an animated “Stop, Drop & Roll” to close out the set.
After a short break the boys got right down to business with a lively “Bumpin’ Reel”. “Windy Mountain” ended with a ferocious charge into “Freedom Jazz Dance” led by Kyle Hollingsworth with his bright pink party hat on, before opening up into a marvelous “Shine”. The Rolling Stones anthem “Sympathy for the Devil” had the crowd going absolutely berserk when they dropped into an especially extravagant “Rosie” to end the show.
Bill Nershi saluted the crowd by proclaiming “Y’all rock in the South in a way that no one else does!” to a crowd that was in a primal state of mind all night.
A longtime friend of Cheese, banjo virtuoso Tony Furtado joined the band for a celebratory “Restless Wind” encore that had everyone walking out with the cheesiest of grins on their faces.
Tonight The String Cheese Incident will play a second show at Chastain Park to bring in the Fourth of July fun.
