Last Thursday Appalachian State University alumnus Jonathan Scales returned to his stomping ground with his group Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, starting off their spring tour at Boone Saloon in the heart of Boone, North Carolina. Setting the mood for the impending jazz-fusion performance was local group Funkelstiltskin, an eclectic crew of local “Boonies”, who prepped the crowd by sharing their creative take on funk-rock. With Scales on the steel pan drums, Jay White on bass, and debuting drummer Shariq Tucker on the kit, the Fourchestra came out of the gates groovin’ with their vibrant blend of smooth Caribbean jazz.
