Papadosio will be playing a mid-week show on Wednesday, January 20th at The Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina, with local favorites The Mantras taking the opening slot. Papadosio is coming out strong to open up the second leg tour for their new album “Extras in a Movie”. The album saw the band take a new direction with their music and was also the band’s first studio release since 2012, showing a new resurgence to the jamtronica masterminds. Every song on the album was new, original material and with a change to past tradition. None of the songs were performed live before the album’s release.
The Mantras are a 6-piece jam super-house from Greensboro, North Carolina, a regional favorite and frequent subject here at The Poke Around. They will be supporting Papadosio for 10 dates around the southeast throughout January. The Mantras are known for bringing a raging rock set and will be sure to get your ears perked and your blood flowing in anticipation for the main show.
Papadosio is known for bringing a wide range of influences, from rock and pop to electronica, and packaging them together into a jam-fueled psychedelic dance party. Although their new material is largely on the shorter end as it appears on the album, they are sure to extend the jams in a live setting. Along with their powerful music, the band definitely knows how to fully engage and captivate audiences with a top notch light and visual show that, in true Papadosio form, is also improvised.
The group has recently moved to Asheville, North Carolina, and is showing their new home state some love with the tour opener in Raleigh and another show in Charlotte at the Fillmore two days later. Even with the recent move, Asheville natives should not expect the road heavy quintet to be in town often. Papadosio has a history of playing around 150 shows a year, a number that is only expected to grow with the new album.
There is sure to be something special for Papadosio fans both old and new with their always catchy grooves and the 16 new songs added to their repertoire.
